Debretts 500 People of Today Party January 25 2014

Phillip de Pury's fabulous gallery space near Buckingham Palace was a fitting venue for Debretts to launch it's new charitable Foundation and to introduce Debretts' 500 People of Today in conjunction with the Sunday Times. The list published in the Sundays Times, features a cross section of successful individuals from media, politics, commerce and entertainment. It includes such fashion notables as Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham. Entering the beautiful gallery space at Phillips auction house was a bit like arriving at Davos for the Economic Forum. Difficult to move without encountering another inspirational mover and shaker. The Sunday times were kind enough to take Knightsbridge Rocks photograph on arrival but seemed a little underwhelmed when it turned out there wasn't a Duchess among us! With titles every where and magnums of Champagne flowing, making sure our party etiquette was up to scratch was a full time occupation. Fiona Bruce introduced the panel including Lord Nash and the phenomenal theatre producer Sonia Friedman who gave us all an insight into the exceptional nature of those included in the 500. Looking elegant in a belted camel jacket and navy pencil skirt and rocking a pearl and gold Knightsbridge Rocks ring, Joanne Milner, Chief Excecutive of Debretts made a very eloquent speech reminding us of the history of Debrett's and all the positive plans for the future including the new Debretts Foundation presided over by Lord Kirkham. The party continued with more champagne and copious delicate and delicious canapes. Thank you Debretts for treating us royally.

Breakfast with Lucian Freud January 24 2014

Lucian Freud is often lauded as an artistic genius.Attracting both media curiosity and female attention in equal measures, he was ruthlessly commercial in selling his art and ferociously protective of his privacy. The Queen and Kate Moss famously sat for him and conformed to his exacting standards on each sitting. It was a privilege then, to attend a talk by Geordie Greig, Editor of the Mail on Sunday describing his relationship with this extraordinary man. Over 15 years, Greig frequently met Lucian in unexpected locations for early breakfasts often accompanied by a bottle of Burgandy or cider. Through these meetings Greig garnered an insight into the artist which he shared with the well coiffed and suitably bejeweled crowd at Grace Belgravia on Tuesday evening. Many of the ladies present had a knowing air and undoubtedly had their own stories to tell about the charismatic painter...... http://www.theguardian.com/books/2013/dec/18/breakfast-with-lucian-geordie-greig-review

Fashion, Shoes and Photography November 17 2013

Knightsbridge Rocks had a busy week beginning with a salon style fashion show at Louise Kennedy's beautiful Belgravia boutique. Louise presented a mix of elegant, timeless fashion and on show was a bag that could rival the Birkin or Kelly bag. "The Kennedy" is a collaboration with Tanner and Krolle. This bag is understated chic at its best. Beautifully crafted and pure stealth. The afternoon combined two of my favourite things - champagne and chandeliers (Louise has designed a spectacular one for Tipperary Crystal) http://www.louisekennedy.com/ On Wednesday, Christian Louboutin displayed his magnificent confections for S/S 2014 in the atrium of stunning Grace Belgravia. The shoes peeked out from enormous Faberge style eggs and generally looked like twinkling jewels. The good news is there are lots of fabulous flats for those of us who tend to run around town rather than have a driver waiting to take us to our next appointment! Orange loafers with metal spikes and stripy flats all with signature red soles made my heart do a little flip. Luckily the nice ladies from Louboutin on Motcomb Street were there offering the opportunity to pre order. We left zinging and on a high after our super healthy mocktails. Bring on the sunshine! http://www.christianlouboutin.com/ Just time to change and don some glitzier jewels, it was time to get to Wempe http://www.wempe.com/ on Bond street to hear Mrs Wempe speak and Jaeger- Le Coultre show off the amazing bejewelled watches.Leaving Wempe and the Tatler team behind it was back to Grace and the launch of the Little Black Gallery's Pop Up in the Atrium. Tamara Beckwiths fantastic photographic gallery hung a selection of stunning photographs by notable such as Julian Lennon and Terry O'Neill http://www.thelittleblackgallery.com/. The plan was to purchase O'Neill's new photographic tome which we were told was sold out not only at the launch but worldwide! Now there is a sell out of a different sort. Apparently, photographic books are prized for their rarity and are often sold as limited editions. Terry spoke at length during the Grace supper club in a Desert Island disc interview with Colleen Murphy.Lots of anecdotes about Sinatra, Faye Dunaway and David Bowie. The crowd was given an aristocratic edge with Gemma Kidd and the Earl of Mornington enjoying the gossip with the rest of us. The week closed with the surreal experience of dining in Zaha Hadid's superb sculpture of a building at the Sackler Gallery in Hyde Park. An opportunity not to be missed. Walking home through the Hyde Park at midnight. Priceless http://www.serpentinegalleries.org/restaurant

Lunch at the RAC November 08 2013

The Women's Irish Network held an Autumn Lunch in the hallowed halls of the magnificent Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall. Special guest speakers were Sir Terry Wogan and Dara O'Brien. Feeling lucky to be invited to such a salubrious event I threw on glad rags and rocks and flew out the door and into a waiting taxi. A minute down the road I was forced to do a u turn to collect a sick child from school. Wrong direction! Prince Charming dashed to the rescue and once more I was off like Cinderella hitting the lunch just as the starters were being served. We dined on Salmon Roulade accompanied by asparagus and quail's eggs followed by a sublime Steak and Kidney Pie with creamy mash and root vegetables. I drank the Widow Cliquot's brew and shunned any further fine wine offerings. Dara O'Brien's interview with Sir Terry was comedic and insightful. Sir Terry was as charming as ever and sartorially impeccable. Seated at the next table the 'Present' Lady Wogan as 'Sir Tel' affectionately refers to his beautiful wife Helen was wearing a magnificent sapphire and diamond ring enhanced further by a substantial sapphire and diamond line bracelet.

The Pink Star October 28 2013

The highlights from Sotheby's Geneva and New York sales are a dazzling sight to behold. On Friday afternoon I was lucky enough to try on many of the pieces and get the inside track on these magnificent jewels at Sotheby's London's New Bond Street home. I picked up a degree's worth of knowledge and information on what makes these pieces the very best in the world. The lovely ladies of Sotheby's New York showed us a magnificent Kashmir cabouchon sapphire ring by French maestro JAR, which apparently has no silks but does have a beautiful thread setting and a band of tiny diamonds encompassing your whole finger. Don't you hate it when the diamonds on the band end to soon? Next we saw the 59.60 carat internally flawless vivid pink oval diamond christened the Pink Star http://www.sothebys.com/en/news-video/videos/2013/09/pink-star-diamond-geneva.html Yours for around 60 million dollars if you happen to be in Geneva on the 13th November. Could go more so don't forget to bring your credit card! The rarity of these pieces is illustrated by the gorgeous Pigeon Blood ruby ring from Burma which will sell for 100,000 dollars per carat while the accompanying flawless, D coloured diamond gets thrown in to the deal free! My heart belonged to New York however with an eat your heart out perfectly matched, cabouchon emerald and diamond bangle. Sotheby's offered to leave me locked in for the night as they recognised how big a challenge it was going to be to get it off my wrist!

Knightsbridge Rocks Grace Belgravia! October 17 2013

The fabulous all female members club Grace https://www.gracebelgravia.com/grace_online/index.php, was the venue for a jewellery extravaganza like no other. Knightsbridge Rocks was delighted to showcase the collection in the Atrium of this beautiful club. A space so light and airy that it makes the Tate Modern look dark. The day was filled with plenty of jewellery talk with Hattie Rickards http://www.hattierickards.com/ and Vanessa Pederzani http://www.vanessapederzani.com/as well as fantastic chats about jewels with other members sauntering through between exercise classes and beauty treatments. Lots of members made time to try on the pieces and some even took them home to add to their own collections! Pilates and pearls make a perfect combination it seems. The cocktail hour was made special by pink champagne and delicious, healthy canapes. A thoroughly enjoyable day!

Red Carpet Rocks October 14 2013

Standing on the red carpet outside the Odeon Leicester square with the camera bulbs flashing all around is enough to make anyone feel like a movie star. On Saturday night the BFI's London Film Festival played host to the brilliant British movie "Hello Carter" for its UK Premiere. Julian Birds production in association with his wife Fleurs fantastic fashion label fleur b http://www.fleurb.co.uk/ created a heady mix of fashion and film. Hello Carters female stars Jodie Whittaker and Annabelle Wallis looked incredible in black and white respectively while Wallis made a real impact with spectacular gold and pearl chandelier earrings. Red carpet jewellery was also reliably displayed on the ears, arms and fingers of the Knightsbridge Rocks posse who happily partied on at the films after party in the Groucho Club in Soho.

Cocktails at Tiffany's October 04 2013

Who needs breakfast when you can have Champagne and foie gras canapes? Last night Tiffany's New Bond Street hosted a fusion of fashion and jewellery with the highlight of the evening a talk by gorgeous Vogue Contributing Editor Calgary Avansino. We were treated to a fantastic presentation on A/W Catwalk trends and insider tips on how to style floral prints and the new pinks that are taking over fashion this season. The lovely people at Tiffany's gave us free rein to try on almost the whole shop! What fabulous fun. There were Polaroid cameras to photograph the jewels lest one might forget the feeling of the exquisite pearls or the pink diamonds by the yard after leaving the premises. Or maybe this is a clever ploy for ladies to leave the photos around casually at home, in the hope that some husbands might take the cue and buy the items in question for Christmas....

Diamond Life - Cotswold Launch of W Diamond Design September 24 2013

It's not often you get invited to a Diamond party but last Saturday night found us at just such an event. Totally transported from Knightsbridge we landed firmly in the Cotswolds at the magnificent Wormington Grange Manor House for the launch of W Diamond Designs. The grand party was in celebration of Nick Wratten's new Website http://wdiamonddesign.com/ and hosted with great style by John Evetts owner of this beautiful Georgian pile which also played host to one of the Bridget Jones movies. I was delighted to find myself in the company of the charming Malachy Guinness who grew up close by in Dublin and the gregarious William Clutterbuck whose daughter is my Knightsbridge neighbour. The fabulous jewels were displayed in glass bell jars which housed not only diamonds but rare, untreated blue and pink sapphires. Nick has top jewellery credentials having worked in both Sothebys Bond street and Sothebys New York. Us lucky party goers are also privy to a code for the The Vault, a section of the site housing the very top antique pieces. My only regret is forgetting to guess the exact weight of a diamond reputedly between 5 and 8 carats. The prize for the best guess was the diamond itself. Now that's a going home present!

Relaunch of the Polish Club and the Karl Lagerfeld Photographie Project September 23 2013

The Brompton Quarter is in the midst of design heaven. The cross is alive with design events and talent from Skandium to Cassina. The most fun event on the design calendar was the re launch of the Polish Club on Exhibition Road where the upstairs event space was home to a selection of iconic contemporary furniture designs. What a space it is too! We were all desperate to think of an excuse to use it as our venue for something! However the real party was happening downstairs where the Polish Club is newly revived by Baltic owner Jon Woroniecki. Despite the scale and proportions of the rooms in this stately old club, guests were delightfully squeezed together like at an old fashioned party where the adage is the more the merrier. The revamped terrace draped in starry fabric was where we picked Simon Playles' brain on jewellery and interior design http://www.simonplayle.com/Simon_Playle_Ltd./Home.html and we chose the rose decorated walls of the bar in Ognisko to catch up on vintage with Felt owner Eliza Poklewski Koziell  http://www.felt-london.com/. We popped into Cassina on the way home to check out the fantastic late view photgraphic exhibition by Karl Lagerfeld who collaborated with Cassina to create these stunning images. The crowd was suitably fashion and design and I suspect a little less vodka fuelled than our Polish comrades http://www.cassina.com/indexkl_en.html

Lungta de Fancy Show at the Berkeley Hotel September 20 2013

London Fashion Week is a crazy mill of dramatic, high octane shows. Somerset House is a buzz with the sheer weight of design talent and heavy hitting fashion editors, celebs and fashion forward bloggers. Sometimes, you receive an invitation to a show that is a little more intimate and special but no less creative or breathtaking. Edgy Japanese designer Lungta de Fancys' show at the Berkeley hotel was such a treat. Located in the sumptuous ballroom, the catwalk was lined with velvet chairs interspersed with tiered trays of fashions favourite Pret- a- Portea on the front row where we were advantageously perched. The cleverly named fashionistas' afternoon tea consists of designer confections including shoe biscuits and leopard print cake handbags. The clothes were also good enough to eat! Fabulous electric blue dresses with integrated frilled capes and stunning cream tulle dresses. The piece de resistance was an entirely transparent full length green gown with a ruched floral train that required two attendants to walk behind and pre empt any possible accidents it might cause. I felt the need to thank Mai the designer personally back stage. For the perfect party dress with an edge check out http://www.lungtadefancy.com/ Of course these fantastic clothes should always be paired with Knightsbridge Rocks London jewels for maximum impact.....

Pump Up the Volume! John Rocha at Somerset House September 17 2013

London Fashion Week has rolled around again and on Saturday through the rain we dashed to Somerset House to feast our eyes on John Rocha's spectacular Spring Summer 2014 collection. John's voluminous silhouettes featured beautifully structured dresses at once pure and sharply sweet in a palete of broken whites and ivories. Big ballerina skirts were covered in quivering fabric petals that appeared weightless. If I were in the market for a Spring 2014 wedding I know where I be headed for the perfect dress ...  tender, striking, romantic and perfect with pearls from Knightsbridge Rocks!

Pont St Launch at Belgraves September 13 2013

Tuesday is the new Saturday in London. Everything of note seems to happen on a Tuesday night in this town. The launch of Pont St, the new super cool restaurant at Thompsons' Belgraves Hotel was definitely no exception. Oh what a night! This was a party where the champagne, cocktails and ridiculously delicious food seemed to run on all night. It was like a Roman feast where no one wanted to call time. In case we were not sufficiently satisfied by the sensational prawns, oysters and squid coupled with ginger Mojitos' and gallons of champagne we were then escorted upstairs to where the VIP's had the run of the hotel and we were served lobster tagliatelle, steak and mash and rose flavoured panacotta. Diet completely blown! I'm sure fellow guests Tamara Beckwith and Damian Aspinall were much more restrained. Most of the night was spent gossiping on the elegant terrace where a retractable roof was allowing goose bumps to appear on the arms of the Alaia wearing crowd. The frocks were haute but the jewellery was relaxed diamond crystal earrings and hippie diamond bracelets with the exception of the incredible cocktail rings much in evidence on the fingers of the Knightsbridge/Belgravia set. Swapping jewellery tales with the fabulous Natasha Leith-Smith whose witty jewellery brand Allumer is a flame in the ascent http://allumer.co.uk/MainMenu/collections.html. Tiggy Kennedy of Bacchus PR and Belgraves really know how to throw a party!

5ivestarlondon.com party at Fortnum and Mason September 13 2013

The fabulous 5ivestarlondon hosted a Laurent Perrier fuelled evening at the Diamond Jubilee Salon in Fortnum and Mason last week. 5ivestarlondon.com is the hottest luxury Website on the International scene, a collaboration between  top London Hotels including the Ritz, the Dorchester and the Mandarin Oriental and recommending the best of the best in London shopping. Sitting elegantly alongside the likes of Garrard and Boucheron on this fantastic Website is the new kid on the block Knightsbridge Rocks London http://www.5ivestarlondon.com/Knightsbridge-Rocks/. Very proud to be in such excellent company. The Diamond Jubilee Salon at Fortnums was exquisitely redesigned and finished by the late great David Collins, complete with his signature cafe curtains and stunning handpainted chinoiserie on the walls. This was the perfect venue for a party bringing the best that London has to offer together and we thoroughly enjoyed the smoked salmon blini's and plenty of great fun banter. The salon was opened by the Queen, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge on March 1st  2012. Can you just imagine the jewels on those three ladies taking tea! Brenda and I loved having an after hours peek at the new jewellery department as we floated off into the night to our own private party at Ceconnis ...

Chelsea Game August 27 2013

Never a huge fan of Football, it is disturbing to see how easy it is to go from placid observer to crazed enthusiast in the space of 90 minutes. Wednesday's fixture between Chelsea and Aston Villa (cute striped socks) was a revelation. The premier league it seems, has its own premier style when it comes to hospitality! We were escorted to our pre match table at the Clarke Suite and given the royal treatment. The food was fantastic, the drinks were absolutely anything you fancied and the service was superb. The dinning room was full of smartly dressed men. Not so many women. Those present were highly polished with plenty of diamonds and of course sapphires (undoubtedly a subtle show of allegiance to the boys in blue!) All were sipping rose elegantly. Not a faked tanned WAG in sight. Our seats were in the "Library". Christened thus for its low key supporters who nearly raised the roof when Ivanovic scored in the 2nd half. Gin and tonics and dessert were waiting for us at our table after the match keeping the spirit very much alive. One of my escorts was in full Chelsea Regalia purchased from the souks of Marrakesh. I wonder did the die hard fans notice?

Provence comes to London July 19 2013

An idyllic Saturday afternoon was spent sipping our friends fabulous rose wines http://jules-wines.com/ and http://grandcros.com/. Julian Faulkner brought some of the best of Le Grand Cros vineyard to London where the weather co-operated beautifully to recreate a mini Provence in Knightsbridge. We all enjoyed a fantastic barbecue in the Garden with a gorgeous vegetable display replicating the scene at Club Cinquante Cinq in St Tropez http://www.club55.fr/en/index.html The ladies accessorized with Bvlgari and Chanel fine jewellery. Jules with jewels. It doesn't get much better!

Thurloe Square Picnic July 10 2013

On Wednesday evening a sensational picnic was held at one of London's loveliest garden squares. A celebration of the brand new, beautifully crafted wooden playground complete with pirate ship and tree houses. This was no ordinary picnic. Food was provided and served by La Cave http://www.la-cave.co.uk/home.php with their exceptional cheeses, Fernandez and Wells http://www.fernandezandwells.com/ with the best Iberico ham this side of the peninsula and delicious Hummingbird Cupcakes to top it all off. The kids and adults all had great fun with a tug of war and water bomb games enthusiastically lead by the crew from Sharky and George http://www.sharkyandgeorge.com/. Ben Fogle was game on for the fun as were the tres chic South Kensington ladies who were responsible for the whole event. The look was relaxed but by no means dressed down. Plenty of Van Cleef and Arpels in evidence. Lots of lovely community spirit and plenty of Rose wine.

Masterpiece London July 04 2013

Masterpiece is London's premier exhibition of Art, Jewellery and Antiques. Housed in a palatial marquee at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, this extraordinary exhibition presents only the best of the best. Making a beeline for Symbolic & Chase http://www.symbolicchase.com/ whose vintage collection of jewellery is arguably the finest in the world, we were blown away by the spectacular pieces from coral and jade earrings by David Webb to Sabbas' shield shape diamond ring. The theme of their stand was under the deep blue sea. Dark, dramatic aquariums filled with lively living coral lined the space. This display lead you straight to their prize piece, a huge 64.5 carat pearl. This stunner is reputedly the third largest well formed natural pearl documented today. Its provenance claims it adorned the necks of Empress Isabella of Portugal and Mary Tudor among other ladies of royal renown. Ari Goosen at Siegelson was the next port of call http://www.siegelson.com/. Ari presented a cushion cut 16 carat D Type IIa diamond. Flawless and breathtaking this diamond dazzled with a price tag of 1,000,000. No visit to Masterpiece would be complete without a chat with London jeweller Theo Fennell http://www.theofennell.com before viewing his impressive giant chess set adorned with silver and gold felines. Masterpiece is a grown up fair that you never want to leave. You could quite easily live here wandering from one incredible showcase to the next, stopping for breakfast at Le Caprice, lunch at Scotts and dinner at the Ivy. Still feeling a little giddy with the sublime and spectacular array of beauty on show. Truly amazing!!

Wimbledon July 02 2013

Wimbledon Tennis Championships, a quintessentially British affair. Unlike it's counterparts the US Open where white teeth and Florida tans dominate the audience or the French Open where understatement is key and the stands always look half empty, Wimbledon has a very British enthusiasm rain or shine. No jaunt to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet club would be complete without strawberries and cream and jugs of Pimms, which can make the most unseeded of players appear spectacularly good! The best thing about Wimbledon is it's unrelenting style which although now firmly in the hands of that American revisionist, Ralph Lauren, never fails to impress with it's traditional English attire. Officials, linesmen, ball boys, ball girls and umpires all turned out as if for a 1920's knock up at somebodys' stately home. We had fantastic seats in the front row and lots of cheerful banter with our neighbours. A birds eye view. The players and most of the TWAGS (is there such a thing?) are from the Loro Piana school of stealth and sport discreet luxury at all times. Diamond Studs, diamond Tennis bracelets (named after Chris Everts' Diamond Line bracelet came undone during the 1987 US Open forcing play to be suspended until the precious diamonds could be found!!) expensive sporty watches and lots of classic Cartier. Pearls were a winner for the spectators, especially matching sets.
